On June 5, Tucson Future will officially announce its entry into the Japanese market and begin self-driving tests on the Tomei Expressway in Japan. The test route connects three major metropolitan areas in Japan (Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka). According to Japanese media reports, the Japanese government plans to set up self-driving lanes on parts of the new Tomei Expressway as early as 2024, and to start allowing commercial operation of fully unmanned L4-class heavy trucks in 2026.
